Chad Perrone.

Gracefully creeping - aka - the story of how we're trying to use the internet to convince Boston music artist Chad Perrone to talk 80s music shop with us.

For real, it feels like we are trying to gracefully creep in Chad's DMs to talk all things 80s. Maybe that's what this article is about. These words are just part of a small collection we are calling the Shameless Series. It's our minor (letdowns?) attempt to get in touch with local folk who we look up to to start up a conversation. Kind of similar to Mike Hsu, former DJ of WAAF and currently with 100.1 FM The Pike out in Worcester. Crazy enough, Perrone was on WAAF's Bay State Rocks back in 2005 with Carmelita.

So ... Chad ... if you're reading, and you're not somehow amazingly scared off, reach out.

We can talk Boston, we can talk Celtics, we can talk Phil Collins, or anything else for that matter. If you wanna roll a podcast, we can do that too. Heck, we'd talk about the NFL and how local Boston fan fave Tom Brady beat the Kansas City Chiefs instead of talking about music and that would satisfy us.

But then again, if we ever get that far, why don't we just talk about Mike & The Mechanics and the glory that is the MTV music video for A-Ha's Take On Me, you know?

Be well, Chad Perrone. Be well.

Who is Chad Perrone?

In our estimation, Chad is the Peter Parker of the Boston Rock Scene. Imagine Spiderman with an acoustic guitar and you've got Massachusetts-based and born songwriter, Chad Perrone. His talent is limitless. He is capabilities as a songwriter are nearly unmatched (think Henley-esque / Heart of the Matter). And, he has the Boston Music Awards to back up our claims.

In his early Boston days, Perrone was a member of one of our favorite bands, Averi. They headlined the Paradise. Crushed Avalon on Lansdowne. Just generally held court as the future darlings of the Boston club circuit. Superstardom didn't happen. And maybe that's for the better.

Alternative Addiction did a piece on his 2008 album Wake ranking it highly within their indie reviews.

Chad Perrone History

Perrone started in a band called Averi that not only went on to have significant local success, but toured beyond the New England region, including the big show that is New York. Chad had the chops to do 80s hair metal, but that wasn't his thing. He could pen a radio hit, but maybe it wouldn't be cast the resonance of authenticity that he's known for.

Chad Perrone Live Performances

Whether solo or a part of Averi, Chad has been a staple of the Boston music scene for two decades. Most recently, Perrone can be found in the Haymarket Lounge of City Winery. Sometimes solo, sometimes full band, Chad always shines under the glow of the stage lights.

If you can't find him on the cusp of Boston's North End, check Club Passim in Harvard Square or the Hard Rock in Faneuil Hall. To top that, he's generally accompanied by all-around mega talent, Steve Belleville and holy massager of the pearly white ivories, Dennis Carroll.

The trio tend to hold court in the way that comedic cousins would at a family reunion, often filling the deadspace of tuning instruments with jibe after hilarious jibe.

Chad Perrone's Songwriting and Touring Credits

The guy has written songs for other famous artists and opened up shows for the likes of Hanson and the Backstreet Boys. He's shared the stage with folks like Gavin DeGraw and the Goo Goo Dolls.

Chad Perrone Albums

Dude loves short album names. We don't hate it. It's fairly akin to how Matchbox 20 names every song of theirs. One word sometimes says it all.

Given that, he's kind of the Def Leppard / Matt Nathanson / George R.R. Martin of album releasing. CP adores 3-5 year gaps between releasing tunes. Even, his "new ep", was released 2.5 years ago at this point and it's only 4 songs. Well, there's always next week.

I mean, this is a quote direct from a review of Perrone's music straight from a review on Amazon:

"There is literally no artist of Chad Perrone's relative anonymity making music half as awe-inspiringly good. As the lead singer/songwriter for defunct Boston up-and-comers Averi, he wrote one of the all-time-great pop-rock records, Drawn to Revolving Doors and since leaving the band, he has released two solo records of sterling quality (Used to Dream, Wake) both to saddeningly little fanfare. Now on his third record, Release, Perrone has put out an album that, while it may not surpass the three monumental achievements which preceded it, matches them and stands as the culmination of the wonderful, heartfelt music he has released throughout his career."

That's just outstanding. And, we agree wholeheartedly.
